The Critter's Monolougue

~*The Critter's Monolougue*~

"I'm critter with a small head and fast ticking brain, at times abnormal heart-beats. You will always find ME engaged in multitasking, with MY pandora box of strange views and nonsense ideas, those endless jabberings, thousands of penniless thoughts and zillions of unsolved questions…!

That’s my world of weirdness, wildness, confusions, dilemmas, nonconformity and quirks. It’s Good, Bad and Ugly ...

To Live, love, laugh, play, relax, rejoice, celebrate...Explore, discover, question, dare, understand, wonder, reflect...Create, care, conserve, nurture...Share, help, hug, heal, inspire.... These are just some of the ways this small creature feels about life. Do you at times feel the same?"

Insta Musings~ Part 1

After a long hiatus, I have decided to revive my blog pages. That doesn't mean I was not pursuing my creative endeavors. I have been writing notes on Facebook profile, posting regularly on Instagram and my Facebook page and working on multiple things. While trying to get a hang of Instagram last year, I came across some interesting Apps and have been in love with two of those for obvious reasons. You can use these Apps to write small snippets, poems, haiku, and your musings and reach out the entire world in a jiffy.

And that's how I started putting down my thoughts, from dairy journal to online journal, in the form of digital writings. Here's a glimpse to some my writings of last year. Some are random thoughts, while  many are life lessons. Some are good old memories and some are just inspirations from various sources- books and other fellow writers.

Behind her smile...

Those indelible memories...

It showered love...

Keep dreaming...

Keepin' you safe always...

Give it time...

When you're not there...

The first time I met you...

Taming that wild creature...

And that's how she defined herself...
Happy reading folks!
And if you are inspired and want to write your musings, here's a list of Apps that can come handy to start with.

My Gratitude~

It has been quite some time now and I can say this phase of my life has been worse in one way or the other. Most of the times, I end up meeting fucktards and jerks. I have been questioning myself for days - “Why me!” But there is no answer to it, I guess. It all started with the beginning of the year. However, it has worsened up in past 3 months. This down-phase of my life is so much overpowering me that I can’t manage a single thing around me. There is more to this story and this is seeming to be an on-going war. People have been mean, meaner and perhaps meanest to me for no genuine reasons. Its sheer bad luck that I end up meeting such characters whom I would never ever want to meet in my life ever. After almost seventy days of war with self, I suddenly felt I should feel good about me. At least I am fighting even if the baggage of anger, depression, and rejection troubles me. I don’t know what forced me today to feel good today... Perhaps the girls downstairs have some magic. Perhaps the good wishes of my landlady, while boarding the cab for an interview-cum-discussion, made me feel good. Of course, my family members have been constant support pillar. I don’t deny that fact. Boarded the cab, bumped into a co-passenger who studies Economics at St. Joseph’s College. We talked till she was dropped at her destination point. She was an interesting girl with a lot of plans about her future. As soon as I entered my building complex, I went to my ladlady’s house. Sitting on the sofa, I kept blabbering about my day. Have to say she has some degree of patience to lend her ears to me for hours, for days and days. In that way, I am definitely blessed. At least, she and her kids make me feel like family. She offered me tea and some snacks. Some playtime with her younger kid. Surprisingly she was all cheerful and in play mood. After a while, I lost interest to play with her anymore. And I ended up watching a dumb movie of Akshay Kumar (man, why do you make such horrible movies! You can do better) with her elder daughter and we laughed on the pathetic jokes in the movie. And suddenly she questioned me - “Aunty, you are on which side?” I said left side as I was sitting on her left side. She found my answer funny. With a face-palm gesture, she said- “Whom are you supporting?” I was dumb stuck. I was clueless what to answer because I was under the impression that it is some sort of political question. And I’m an apolitical person. She further probed me- “Are you on Shiv and his brother’s side?” Till then I was not aware that hero (as in Mr. Kumar in the movie) had a brother in the movie and his name was Shiv. And she wanted me to support the hero, his brother and the eternal fight with badmen like any other pathetic Bollywood movie. Oh, did I mention it is a Hindi version of some Telugu movie with every bit of masala in it. Thanks to Prabhudeva ji!
As evening descended, I decided to move my ass from her house, climbed upstairs and entered home. I love my home the most. But since past few months, I don’t stay here as in my soul doesn’t reside here. I feel it’s wandering in some other world. I feel so mechanical. A home without anyone around to chatter to. Sigh! Sob sob!
I sat in front of my laptop to check my mails and search for more job ads. But some sort of inertia has set in today. I couldn’t do anything. Thought to sleep. But sleep and I have eternal enmity. So, instead decided to stay up creative. Crushed the egg-shells and added those to my flower pots. Then again a weird blankness set in. Warmed the tea from the kettle which my benevolent maid had kept for me. But forgot to remove the mug from the microwave oven. Reheated it again. Searched my paint brushes, but in vain. And while searching for one thing, bumped into another. Found a stack of agarbattis of my favorite brand, all the way from Pondicherry. Smelt each packet like a kid. Voila! Suddenly I was feeling good. Took out some new packets of agarbattis to light them. Lit two of them in front of the evergrowing collection of tiny gods and goddesses that I have. The smoke released from the upside down incense stick holder was magical. And slowly the corner started smelling of English rose. I changed the reed diffusers eventually. And the magic of essential oils immediately hit my olfactory senses giving a serious mood uplift. Trust me when I say that! They work like magic.
Within no time, every corner in the house got a different feel and redolence. The small passage near the washbasin smells of spring blossom, whilst the drawing room of cherry blossom and entrance hallway of Patchouli. The bathroom is overdosed with Ylang-Ylang and I think I will sleep there tonight. The bedroom is filled with the fragrance of French lavender. I must have lost a screw of my head to get into such a mode. My house is now smelling of some incense stick/essential oil boutique. But I am loving it. :) And to retain this mode, I make myself a cup of gingerbread tea which Kshitija (alias KK) gifted me from England. As the ‘Drum Invasions by Bikhram Ghosh’ plays for the fourth time, I sit down with my exotic tea to write my feel-good experience of the day. दिल के बाज़ार में~ (In the market of emotions)

Let the light come in

Bonded with Pain

Stomach aches.. Limbs ache..
Hand ache.. so do legs too..
Joints ache...Muscles ache..
Head aches.. Now heart aches too..
What doesn't ache..!
Aching is a part of me..
For it is in love with me..
Truly and honestly..
My life partner (?) doesn't love me so much..
Not even my in laws do so..
Every one who say that they love me..
Love me less but heart themselves more..
When my husband declared his 'self-love'
I almost felt like a whore..
For him "I love you- you love me"
Meant nothing, but my existence
In this world..!
And not in his world..
Well last night
After that silent fight...
Heart did ache..
Head did too..
I bled too..
Crying in pain,
I realised its all vain.
Pain, that existed in my vein
Is now my life long companion.
Aching is a part of me..
For it is in love with me..

Art of Unprofessionalism and Unethics..

Recently I took up an assignment for someone to do product photography.  Would not like to name the person and the website for whom it was (that would make me sound very mean, but if you are so keen check out Amtrips' Photography; you will know it).

"A certain amount of work deserves certain reward, and, in this case, if you go by usual standards of this kind of work, you would be charged 1000/- per photo". Since I am a newcomer, I didnt asking that kind of money. But that does not mean that the person for whom i did the work will pay 500/- for the whole process- one day of work at your place, traveling to and from your place, and 20 hours of work for editing and processing of the photos and embedding your logo in them (well the person wrote to me saying that what I did so great on the photos that I had to spend 20 hours on that).

The person used the photos in her website and didn’t bother to ask/tell me that she was going to use them on your website. I don’t think this is professional conduct. Do you think she did right?Well she didn't feel sad and apologetic about her conduct.

Communication gap: I provided you the photos within 3 days of the day I shoot the products, and I have to pester her  for an acknowledgement of that (by asking again and again whether she got the photos or not, for a feedback so that i can work on the rest items)?

And guess what when the feedback came after 3 reminders, almost after 8 days!
Let me quote it in her words directly "Ohh I thought I messaged we received the images. Feedback is not great about the photos. The jewellery designer is not happy about her pictures. Orissa bottles also some photos came out well but others need to be fixed. Will call in the evening to discuss."

Doesn't mean I am a dumb clicker or a shoddy not-so-professional person?!?
Apparently she has been seeing my work on my Facebook page Amtrips Photography (that she invited me based on the photos I have clicked, (which indeed proves that neither I am "fresh" photographer nor that I don't know A to Z of  photography) and she did mention once she liked my work. Well words change in a day in today's world.!! And what does it mean by "on-trail basis" ... !! LOL
Does that mean if its trail basis work , you pay some one just a peanut amount for all the creativity, hard work and sincere efforts??

My only question to all sensible readers out there: If the work was not great and shoddy, if the designer didnt like it... why was I not informed on time.. Second, why did she not dump those pictures. Rather she used all the snaps I had sent her to upload in her webpage... Darn...! How mean!

I strongly feel of there was so much injustice to the products  (as per her the photos were not professional and not GREAT or whatever) and her designer in that case.
Just because some designer (sitting in some part of the country) felt that the photos are not entirely satisfactory, all that I did doesn’t go down the drain. Just taking your things to a studio, putting them on a white cloth and then clicking away and straightaway giving it to the person would take hardly any effort. If that is the kind of work  that is appreciated (that was apparently expected from me), sorry, I am not the one to do it.

My only stand point: "Still if you feel that the photos are not upto standard, then you should not have put them on your website, whereas you have used 46 out of 48 photos! That indeed is surprising… so you should be paying me 100/- per photo at least. Now that you have used them, pay me 100/- per photo, or take them off from your website, return the photos to me, and pay me for my work-that can’t be less than 3000/-, I have worked more than 3 days for it.
Contact some professionals from the industry if you want to know what is right. And that won’t change my stand, because I have already done that, after hearing from you that the photos are not good. Your not being able to pay me more doesn’t mean you’ll pay me 500/-. How much do you spend if you go out to eat in a restaurant?"

The the response I got to this was not so easy...!
She quoted me  and my work unprofessional and I being unethical for charging her so high- and that I am a fresh photographer (which means that I dont know any damn thing of photography) and that if I have to accept that, i have  or else take that 500 bucks and keep quiet... And blah blah...!

And just saying that "we will take out the photos from OUR website and close this chapter" is not the way such so called professional- and -ethics bound-people deal with others...!
And still some of my photos sit in their website...!

Little Tiggy..

1st Feb 10

A poem written long time ago...!
For  "Save Tigers" moment..!

The first time I could realize this big cat's existence and its enormous size was in Banerghatta a few years back. Campaigns of anti poaching and save tigers are spread all across the country. I had penned down a small poem in my boredom days a few years back...after that safari trip to Banerghatta  Zoo (or as we say Banerghatta National Park) (where I felt the tigers were enjoying their safety and were lazying around, ignorant about the fact that their species needs an immediate attention before they enter a bottle neck like the lions of Ngorongoro.)

The poem goes like this..

Along the river side,
Is the bank
Next to it is a forest
And that's where the lonesome tiggy
Is waiting for his mommy...

Alas, she didn't turn up,
Tiggy cried,
Didn't know his mommy
Is lying in rest..!

A shade of blood on the stomach,
A soar on the neck!
And she lay there dead..
The hunters enjoyed the bitter trade..!!

Tiggy now hates man,
As they are the enemy of his clan..!

Apparently Aircel has a very similar ad for the Save Tiger Ad Campaign..!
The concept of that advertisement is heart rendering and so touching, I felt like adopting a tiger-cub right away..!

Into each life some rain must fall.....

Today was a sad day... Reasons are many..!

Reason 1: Last night's agony.. no-word exchange wala fight.. huh! Sulk Sulk..We don't understand each other..That's what we alleged each other ( at least with my silence..! )
Reason 2: Today/ Yesterday was a Monday (typical Monday-phobia blooming inside me)
Reason 3: Mucocele is back plus gum injury... awww. :'(
Reason 4: Leaving bed in the morning lately even though alarm rang an hour before.. huh... I hate it..!
Reason 5: Still in dilemma whether to talk to BBA about what should be done or not.
Reason 6:  Oh, the day seemed so long..I hate it again..!
Reason 7:  Repeated "accusations" from BBA that I am not doing my job properly ( which isn't true, he loves to boss around, huh.. I hate it again and again when some one points out my perfection levels.. :(( )
Reason 8: Finally that faltu file of  one of the jerk grantees had to be completed by me (by EOD).. I had been avoiding it since March.. but had no excuse today (fell in-trap..)
Reason 9: BBA screaming on me without trying to understand what I was explaining... huh.. I hate myself as sub-ordinate of someone..!
Reason 10: Sat in office alone till 9 30 PM, completed the work, mailed BBA and that jerk.. huh

As if these ten reasons were not enough, that it rained badly when I decided to pack up!!.. and I was stuck in office, alone for an hour or so...! huh!!

There and then I realized... its the rain that will wash off my anger, frustration and pain and may be it will make me feel calm, wet and peaceful. Without delaying, I packed my bag, ran to the basement and started my scooter.. drove back home..As I drove my scooter in the air, cold wind lashed me, rain drops, big and small, hit me. I was not scared as I had one thing in mind... To get a cleansing done..! I drove in dark, windy night with wet, serpentine, slippery roads, heading towards the city life (thankfully, the Bellary road, where currently some fly-over construction is going on, was dust-free and empty and human-less), As I drove, I didn't listen to 94.3 FM rather for a change I tuned into the collection of melodies stored in my phone. I drove as I listened to Hariji's 'Hasti apni habaab si hai', drenched in rain.... without stopping..!

And as I drove... I realized..
“Into each life some rain must fall, some days must be dark and dreary.”

We Must Love Someone

May 18th had been always special for me. That's what I had thought.
Since my blog has got a few readers, I may not be able to write what I want to. But this May 19th isn't the same date which I loved to celebrate always.

As I searched for its and bits of my life's book, joining the torn out papers of my life, I found this book of Ruskin Bond and read the entire book to restore my peace, my calmness, to realize that somewhere I am still waiting for ....!

We Must Love Someone

We must love someone
If we are to justify
Our presence on this earth.
We must keep loving all our days,
Someone, anyone, anywhere
Outside our selves,
For our selves;
For even the sarus crane
Will grieve over its lost companion,
And the seal its mate.
Somewhere in life
There must be someone
To take your hand
And share the torrid day
Without the touch of love
There is no life, and we must fade away.

I just hope you realize this sooner before someone is perished completely.
And I have decided, I will never ever celebrate May 19th from now on.
:(

When it rains..

Haikus-Small emotion-poems, of 4 to 6 lines, are of Japanese origin.
Of lately I discovered this hidden talent of mine that writing haikus make me so crazy..!! :P
There it goes which I penned down long time back in one of my scribbling dairies.

When it Rains,
The tune plays in my Brain....
I dance...........................
Without leaving that Golden Chance!!

I am forgetting all my Pain
As I know
There is nothing to Gain
Oh yea, its all in Vain.....!!

A Rooster's Monologue..

(The narrator is "The sad rooster" himself)

"Grown up in a Farm,
I never did any Harm...
But when u order
He has to murder..!!

I go into the pot,
Boiling hot...
And then on the dinner table
Little Jonhy desperate to nibble
Daddy is ready to chump
my fleshy lump...

All in family, happy to feast..
Like a beast...!!
I am the rooster
Your tongue's booster..!!"

My Top Five Inspirations

"Women are Always Beautiful"
~ Oscar Wilde.

On this 8th March, where the whole world is celebrating women power on the day of International Women's Day (started in 1975 in United States), I find my blog to be the most privileged place to thank a few real life known ladies, close to me, my soul and life. They have not only  my inspirations, but also motivator and I am a great-time secret admirer of these real-world heroines.

Lady 1: Manjushree Tripathy

First in the list is none else than my Mom... My life giver, my lucky charm, my stress buster, my pout  box for throwing my anger, my bad times companion. I not only owe my life to her, but I also feel proud to be her daughter. Had there been no Manjushree Tripathy, I would have been never into existence nor my blog.

She is a voracious reader of literature, a professor in rare language (Sanskrit), a hindustani classical vocalist, a TV and Radio singer, a mother of three, a knitty gardener, a warden of hostel with 500 girls..!
She is an all time workoholic machine. I have never ever seen her resting or wasting time.
And as she says the famous lines "No mother can be evil/ bad, whatsoever may be her kid (son)be!", I realize now she is the perfect epitome of a woman.

I know my mother is the best person in this world  and will remain with me for-ever. I love you mom for being my mom..!

Lady 2: Soubadra Devy

I got the opportunity to interact with Soubadra (SD, I love to tag her with her initials) one fine evening. I still remember our first conversation. It was sometime during last year's summer (in May), when one fine evening she walked into my workspace and discussed about one job profile. Ever since I had heard of SD and her better half TG (T.Ganesh ) during my Pondicherry days, I was keen to work with both esp Soubadra, the butterfly lady in our field (ecology). She was one amongst the few names who work on plant-animal interaction (in particular pollination ecology).

Soubadra, from the 80's batch (if not wrong, 89 Batch, Salim Ali School of Ecology, Pondicherry University), is a field ecologist, a canopy scientist working in the tiger landscape at KMTR. Soubadra Devy has been a inspiration in many a ways. Before I knew her and after I have known her (since May 2010). First time I read her scientific paper for an assignment for Partha's Forest Ecology course, I was eager to meet her. And as we all know, nothing is impossible in the world. My settling in Banglore, getting the golden chance to work at ATREE, and that fine evening of last summer when the lady came to me with the job of working as an editor for her canopy book, all had been so perfect and unexpected. I thank god for finally making me work with SD on her one of the many books.

She has been a constant motivator, inspiration and good listener. Not to forget she loves my cakes a lot (like  my work :P). Keeping my fingers crossed to get more opportunity to work with her in future...!

Lady 3: Jyotirmayee Dash

Meet this "small" lady..She must be 5' or so, dusky skin-toned, somewhat in early 40s of her life. She is an authentic cook (aah, how much I love those stuffed sweet fried rice balls, the special rice pudding.. she owns expertise in continental and typical oriya and indian food). She is my aunt and we love to gossip with her. She is more than a friend. A senior lecturer, married to my uncle (dad's younger bro), a mother of two girls, I really salute the way she manages her job, her ill health, her home and everything (not to forget her sarees, I love them a lots).

Kudi (in Oriya, for Chachi) ranks third in my list of inspiration and no doubt if I say I admire her a lots.

Lady 4: Anita Tripathy Lal

"Annani", that's what I call her. She is my second cousin). I rank her to be the perfect modern woman, who balances between work, kids, home, ailing parents, maids... what not to list when it comes to Anita Tripathy. She deserves 10 on 10 on my list of perfect woman.! A IIT graduate, MBA prof @ some famous B school in Delhi, Anita is a mother of 6 kids- her mom and dad (late Nira uncle), Vinni, Sherya, Sumit Bhai and her maids (that's what she told me when I had been to her place last time, sometime in Aug 2007). Wooah! so many kids with different demands and she manages to fulfill all of them without fail.

I salute her for being so versatile, flamboyant and super-energetic.

Lady 5: Deepa Pradhan Rath

Deepa Bhabhi is a modern era woman, a banker and a nice mix of old thoughts and new ventures. Married to my cousin, Deepa stays in Delhi with my brother, work for a bank. From the first time I saw her during the marriage till my stay in Delhi for 3 days, I realized Deepa bhabhi is so dynamic and a typical metro woman, having a good balance at home and her workspace.

By the way, not to forget, 8th March is her birthday and so I wish her many many happy returns of the day.. ! She is a true woman of spirits.

These were the famous five in my life.. What are yours?

And there you screech.....Leech...Leech..!

Leech Leech...
Never seen on sea beach

Not on trees of birch or peach
One can found in ample, near that ditch..!
They love to hog on anything
that's hemo-rich.

Hiding in the rain-forest mud
always ready to drink your sweet blood
As slowly as they climb
Onto your hind-limb..
You never get the feel
While they slowly enjoy their meal

Aah, you feel the lump,
With fear as you jump..
Now you screech
OMG...! A leech..
No...no ..., two leeches,
Oh no! Three leeches..!!.
And to your horror, you find more leeches!

But then you stop your forest walk, take a halt
And carefully pour little salt,
Aah... Alas, now screams the leech..
That's how you get rid of  that beast
There you see yourself bleed ..!

Oh oh..
All these while, they loved you as their feed
As blood is their only need..!
Leech Leech...
Never seen on sea beach

Leech Leech...
...when they are after you, they make you itch ...:P ;)

On our 3rd anniversary...

I dedicate this video only and only for you my Einstein (Mr. Hegde).

On our Third anniversary, all I want to say is that hopes and dreams are still alive inside me and am still in love with you for the only reason which is very obvious-"For you are my BITTER half and I'm your BETTER half." I have been fighting all odds like a viking and I am sure that you  too are a fighter. And I have the faith that one day all my dreams will come alive just because of you.

I don't find a better medium to confess all these. I still feel the same way as I have been feeling for last three years for my dear Fifin pie...! :P

Here it goes, one of my crazy poems from your bonny sweetheart, for you (and only you) :

Don't you know why
I'm still with you...!

Since you make me laugh and you make me cry,
You admire me, you criticize me..
You bring smile on my face and also tear,
Thank god for we bear each other..!

Don't you know why
I'm still with you...!

You make my day and night ..
Your chicky sms or a call sometimes makes my day bright..
When i am sad, you hold my tight..
All those excuses and fights,
Our self-egos and hundreds of inner frights...

In the midst of all those
we share some lovely memories..
Many funny moments...
A few secrets, some bold adventures...
Some spicy and juicy gossips.. :P
 With hot cups of teas..!

My endless jabberings,
Your silent listenings..
And a lot of untold words..!
A few of those I have shared by card..
That still bind us with this bond..!

And that's why I'm still with you..
Perhaps will be always there with you.!!

Instant Rhapsodies...

They say that I am quickie writer. Instant words pop out from my brain, which rhythm and speak out my inside. I don't think twice nor do I re-think when I pen down some jabbering.
In a nutshell, I love all those popping-out words from my musing's Pandora box. What I visualize in a photo, I try to weave it into a quilt of fancies.

Some of these instant rhapsodies are only for Man, my old friend in good hours and bad times.

***

This is the first one~

Oh its white ..
What a lovely bright sight..
On the snow..
...when the sun rays glow..!

I find my way..
It makes me gay
Into the woods, on the snow..
We walk slow..
On the snow..
when the sun rays glow..!

***

There goes the second one ~

The snow ocean, as I name it..
there you see..
the waves in white..
... In its midst..
there's chunks of lives..

Like the green sea
that has the corals
I am sure
You feel damn royal...!
:) :P
***

And the third one ~
:)

The misty clouds..
Speak so loud..
A story from the valley..
...Where kids play in alley..

Its now a folk of the past..
Time has moved so fast..
Now that The valley is into two pieces
Its no more the adobe of peace

But still the misty clouds,
When they enter the valley
They cry it loud
That one day kids will play in alley..!

Man, that what I call him with awe and affection. I met Manish Kumar in 2005 in Pondicherry, where we spent 750 days together, from university classroom to our Silent Valley trip. This saga of bonding still continues...

Its my pleasure to write some instant rhapsodies for our dear Man for his adventures in nature's lap, from his Sikkim trip.

The blue-stoned Ring

The blue-stoned Ring,
Reminds me the songs we used to sing
in the hot summer evenings
and cold rainy nights.

It's the blue-stoned ring
That reminds me of those glasses of water
You used to bring
When I used be your master.

The blue-stoned ring
Has a central Jade,
and tiny diamonds all over studded.
It stands for our love,
which will never fade.

Oh yes, it's the blue-stoned ring
that says me "You re there for me to cling onto"
A resilire to our shared childhood memories
of those secrets,gossips and care
pillow-fights, quarrels and then sorries!

Oh yes, it's the blue-stoned ring
A gift from my Sister
For the love that we still do share
Along with our grown-up dreams.

The Riot..!!

I was expected to sleep and may be snoring loud and louder and not letting my partner sleep peacefully. It's obviously not true as I am awake like an owl at night prowling in search of its prey. Huh, thanks to my scary thoughts and anticipations!

I had grown up in a religious Oriya Brahmin family, happily married to a Kannadiga Brahmin. My parents are from the elite mass and so too my in laws and my life partner. I had read the Constitution when I was in school in my Social Studies classes. I am a citizen of a secular country. I think of peace and prosperity and happiness for me and my close ones. After all these, I am still not resting in peace. I am sleepless and troubled at these off-hours of night. But why?
My soul is not peaceful and is damn f***ingly disturbed. Thanks to that fear which came in and stayed peacefully inside me since I was a kid.

I remember very crudely what happened in 1992, that fine morning of Dec, the 6th. I was in school and as 'B section' class-monitor, I was out of my class, my steps were towards the common staff room and holding nearly 47 English notebooks and quietly following the English teacher. Suddenly principal calls for an urgent meeting and declares school for a Sine die within an hour. I asked Laxman bhaiya (a peon in my school) what the matter is. He told school is gonna be closed since riots have broke all over the country. I was calm and cold and somewhere happy from inside as school will be on holidays and we would be getting an extended winter vacation. For a class rank holder, it’s a big thing to know such news in advance so that you can play your game safely against your academic rivals at the school. But for how long and why? My tiny brain would have never realized the sensitivity of that statement and what it meant. ‘A riot....’!

I was happy and back to my class and started bossing around on my class-fellows. But had I been a grown -up, I would have got the hint. A few seniors, house leaders, and school captains were seen rushing to principal's chamber. I was wondering why? To my utter surprise, within a span of 20 minutes or so, I remember our class teacher appeared in hurry, entered the class. She was not shocked with the chaos in the class. She was steady and calm and called me and the second lead to me, ordered us to keep silence in no-time as she had some urgent announcements. We tried to make the dirty little scoundrels be quiet, as Bilkis ma'am said-" Classes are suspended and all should pack up for home immediately". I remember very clearly, the next door 'A section' teacher, Hussain ma'am rushing into our room and saying all of us-" Dear children, it’s a serious issue. Riots have broken in country and so school is gonna close for an indefinite period. We have informed your parents and home to pick you up as soon as possible. Since it’s not safe, we request all those who are cyclers to leave school immediately and reach home safely...” Soon in no time, the headmaster of Kendriya Vidyalaya arrived into our room, when we were still in the trauma of this Sine Die news and he gave a small insight to the reason behind why the school is closing. In his words-" Dear children, Babri Masjid is being demolished by BJP and Hindus and so there is now communal disturbances and riots have broke all over the country. So, I am being ordered by AC and higher authorities from BBSR to close the school now and look into the fact that all students reach their home safely. We will inform you when the school is re-opening."

God Damn... I asked a friend what's going to happen. How will we reach home safely, since my mom and dad would be in college...? And what about our rickshaw-puller uncle. Meanwhile I saw to damn surprise, the school compound was guarded by policemen and 5 police at the gate. Parents crowded to take back their kids; some sensible and caring rickshaw-wallas calling for the kids whom they have been bringing to school and dropping back home ritually. I and a friend of mine still stuck with the idea of what to do if our respective dads don’t turn up.

Seeing raged mobs, agitated people in small crowds, rumours spreading like some epidemic, I was getting panicky. It was almost 2 hours. A very few students were left in the school. All the while my brain was thinking what if the agitated mob enter the school, try to abduct us, try to kill us, try to break our school and thousands of such activities kept traveling in my neurons. Seeing someone's father wounded on road by hooligans, while he was in rush to pick his kid, I was even more scared. What if my dad is killed? Shit...! I was so panicky...

While I was still in my thought process, I heard someone screaming-"papa...papa... baba is here... papa...papa..!!" Dad, oh yeas that’s my dad. He was there near the school entrance with some colleague of his with his car and seeing dad, I was so relieved. I ran and hugged him and following me was my friend. We both were made to calm down and not panic and then we were driven back to home. Thanks to that friend of dad, who didn’t care to put his life and car, of course in danger for me and my friend? While we were on the way to home through the many galis of Cuttack roads, avoiding the agitated crowds, the Hindus in small groups, the Musalmaans in and around mosques in troops, all armed of course, I noticed burning vehicles and shops closed. Some grocery shops were crowded. People were buying stuff to hoard those so that they can sustain during the anticipated dark days.

Chaos was clouding over the city. Rumours were becoming sporadic and news like 4 people killed, 3 burnt to death, 2 buses burnt, shops are broken and looted, and this basti with 11 Muslims dragged to death, Muslim kids ruthlessly murdered...!! Balasore is on curfew. Agendas getting passed... Cabinet meetings... Emergency services alert 24/7... The loud sirens of police and ambulance, cities in high alerts, many on curfews and this trauma continued for a few days... People with talwaars and other sharp, deadly weapons were seen in nearby houses, on roof-terraces. A big lock was put on our apartment's entrance for safety of all those who were residing in side. The thought that we were residing in a Hindu dominated area was our sole weapon and in fact entire safety key. That feel of “we” was so strong that time and in 2002 again and still today. Such big time communal violence- Homicides, suicides to save honour, raping women and small girls and ruthless killings, mobs, fire set to hundreds of homes, lifeless bodies of those who were not a part of Babri Masjid demolition. Shame on “us” for being spineless at that point of time and as and when such barbarism took over humanity and secularism...Aaah, bring a full stop to this masaccare.

I was not aware of the entire story till a few days back when I was narrated the fast track story by my favourite story-teller, Fifi. I was sacred on 21st Sept with the Ayodhya Verdict, not able to concentrate at office on my scheduled works after Shiv and Bhaskar had a discussion over the Veridct (that time it was dated for 24th Sept). I don’t want another riot which I glimpsed during my childhood nor the one like Gujrat riot of 2002 when I was still not mature enough to understand the cause and reasons. Hindus killing Muslims, Muslims raping hindus, morality lost, fires set, children orphaned to roads and streets of India...For god sake, stop this genocide. Hindus are also Homo sapiens and so are Muslims...! Can't we think above religion? Can we ever grow up, behave sanely? Why Mr. Modi ordered for entire Gujrat to be made a Muslim-free zone as if they are pests? Why police supported him? Who started it? What was the cause? Who set fire on the train on track? Why Godhra riot took a red colour? So, many questions without answers and to add to it are my fear, which has stayed inside me and has grown up with me since 1992. I have realised I have been infested with this “RIOT-o-phobia”.
Fifi tries to comfort me, assures me that we are safe and explains that mass psyche is much stronger than an individual’s. The slightest ignition gives it the shape of huge burning cauldron of dead bodies. Fifi also says it’s easy to divide and rule. Britishers did follow it and so do today’s politicians. ‘I’, as individual is strong enough to protest but I amongst many “I’s” gets converted to “We”. The whole world can be then divided easily under just 2 words- "We" and "They". “We”and “they” are much stronger than "I" and "You". Once "we" are against "they/them", it always takes the shape of bloodshed and violence and culling of "those" thousand innocents. Wiping off “they and their” becomes the main motto. The mass psychology is so scary then.
The fear of chaos has taken over me so much that I am not in peace from past 7 days. I don’t sleep; anticipations bother me- what if riot happens? What if the train is attacked while I am on my way to home (after 3 years), what if they ask us religion? Fuck off you son of those bitches...! Why can’t your moms make you learn that religion is nothing its just a faith and feeling. Humanity is much bigger than just any religion. Mankind is superior to that Ram or Rahim, Allah or Bhagwan... Mandir or Masjid, Kailash or Kabba..!

Even if the Ayodhya Verdict is out yesterday, but do you think I am fine? Of course a big “NO” is the answer. What if a riot happens after 7 days from today? What if I am in train and Muslims set it on fire? What if tomorrow while driving back to home from office; I am stuck in road by miscreants on the name of religion? What if Fifi is gone to ShivajiNagar and is victimised by a riot? Let me just blame it on that word-"The riot".These F***ing riots have traumatized me, made deep scars on my innocence, raped my intellectual thoughts and still continue to haunt and trouble me. I am 27 and independent but still I am nothing. I am a scared Indian..!

I have never visualized till day that the name RIOT will create such a storm of fear and pain inside me even if I had not been its victim. Watching movies like 1947 Earth, Bombay, Firaaq, Mr. And Mrs. Iyer, Parzania have made me feel what one goes through if he/she gets victimized. I am just scared what if I have to face it one day. I don’t want to lose anything that I own and possess- my name, my family, my social status, my belongings, my dreams and my life. Its 3:40 AM of 1st Oct'10. Currently, I may be safe- surfing the internet, trying to focus on my farm at Farmville, sitting in front of the magic gadget (laptop) in my home with the 9th cup of tea (in the day), though not very peaceful but fingers are crossed..!

I was just too small to understand all of it before fear made its home inside me- Thanks to riots of 1992-93, 2002..! Now I get scared with its name, the way it’s spelled, with the hearing of that word, with its sight in any newspaper and with its anticipation -“The Riot”!

Birthday Wishes for Someone Special..!

The person is one in hundreds and thousands.

I have been knowing Dr. Pankaj K. Sahani since January 2007 and I remember how our bonding has grown up..!!

That time he was just Mister, and now he is a Doctor (don't confuse with a medicine-wala, he is a Graduate from WII. I found Pankaj ji,(well Pankaj Bhai is what I love calling him) in one of those many crazy social networking sites and soon Pankaj Bhai got transformed from a stranger to a "just-chat-friend" (we had lots of arguments and those countless fights without any noble cause..huh, we both are for sure big nuts), then a good friend and slowly a very close friend, and now a fatherly image, a brother in far-off land, a great philosopher, a big-time stress buster and not just this much one of my secret-confiders.

He is a gem of persons, with equal number of vices as that of virtues, with a heart of sweet candy, a whacky touch to all worries,a brevity with brain, a hunk with lesser punks and junks, a typical angry young man, hard like a Cocus nucifera shell from outside but softer and whiter inside with a real knack for many common things, that we share- music, camera, photography, nature, birds, trees, flowers, orchids and not the least the endless jabberings.

I cherish this pen-friend of mine. He is just more than a friend. God bless him with all happiness and good things of world.

These lines of Thomas Hood I would love to dedicate for Only and Only Our dear Pankaj Bhai-

"I remember, I remember
The roses, red and white,
The violets, and the lily-cups,
Those flowers made of light!
The lilacs, where the robin built,
And where my brother set
The laburmum on his birthday,-
The tree is living yet."
